about the “shapeshifting for thousands of years” thing…
i’m not so sure.
think about it - rose diamond was just poofed. when a gem is poofed, as long as she doesn’t stretch herself too far, she has control over how she looks when she comes back.
with amethyst, the problem wasn’t that her new appearances were different. it’s that she was pushing herself, stretching her form beyond its capabilities.
rose diamond… did the opposite. she made herself smaller. sure, she got fatter and more muscular, but she got a lot shorter, too. it evens out.
the shapeshifting idea is interesting, and still possible. after all, pearl and amethyst, who were pink’s gems, seem good at it… but when rose said that from now on, she’ll be just rose, i think she meant it.
i think the poofing served a double purpose: faking her death, and giving her the chance to truly reshape herself into who she wanted to be. permanently.
My little sister is 11 and she likes to come into my room a lot and hang out with me, but sometimes when she comes in I’m in an introverted or depressed mood and don’t want to talk to anyone. Tonight she came in and said that my room was too quiet, so I told her to go listen to music or something because I didn’t really feel like talking. She sat there quietly for a couple of seconds and then she said, “I’m gonna tell you what happened in gym class today because it was really annoying, but you don’t have to talk back.” And she just started talking about her day to me and I don’t think enough people understand how helpful that is to someone who’s depressed. To be there with them and talk to them without expecting them to engage in conversation. It’s a way to be alone without feeling completely lonely and I think everyone who deals with depression or any other mental illness needs someone like my sister to understand that, and to interact with the people they care about based on their state of mind.
Man eating rice, China, 1901-1904
this is an extremely important picture
Ive never seen someone from 1904 having fun omg
He has a nice face
No but the history behind this picture is really interesting
The reason that everyone always looked miserable in old photos wasn’t that they took too long to take. Once photography became widespread it took only seconds to take a picture.
It was because getting your photo taken was treated the same as getting your portrait painted. A very serious occasion meant so thst your descendants would know that ypu existed and what you looked like.
But one time some British dudes went to china to go on an anthropological expedition, and they met some rural Chinese farmers and decided to take their pictures. Now, these people weren’t exposed to the weird culture of the time around getting your photo taken, so this guy just flashed a big grin during the photo because he was told to strike a pose and that’s the pose he wanted to strike.
I think painted portraits and old photos give us the idea that in general people were just really unhappy because those are the visuals we have. This is so refreshing.
Hey, look; “Man Laughing Alone With Rice” is back on my dash.
always reblog Happy Rice Guy. once upon a time, he really enjoyed his lunch, and that’s beautiful.

you could think of it as being underwear on the outside or you could think of it as wearing booty shorts with matching knee-high boots and a pair of leggings
which, let’s face it, sounds both stylish and comfortable
